Sock meme

When did you first learn to knit socks? Around 1998, I think. I remember knitting socks for Elinor's principal à la Dumbledore wishing for socks for Christmas. She got the joke.

What's the first sock you ever knit? Plain socks in red Lopi. I was always scratching my ankles. I remember buying clogs to wear with them as they were too thick to wear with regular shoes. I was too scared of the thin sock yarn. Kudos to you, Grasshopper for jumping right in.

Favorite Sock Pattern? Monkeys by Cookie A., I guess. I'm on my second pair. Is her name really Cookie?

Favorite needle method? Right now it is the Magic Loop, but I still use double points when I run out of long circular 2.25 mms.

Favorite sock needles? Knitpicks Harmony, but they tend to break if carried around, so I use the Knitpicks Steel.

Who do you knit socks for? Me. The kids. Hubby has one pair that he does wear when it gets cold.

How many pairs have you knitted to date? I don't actually know. My friends would snicker as they know that I don't often knit pairs. Maybe 16 actual pairs and 30 singles in progress or waiting mates.

What is on your sock knitting to-do list? The list is endless with Ravelry to look at. I guess Lucy Neatby's socks in the latest Knitters magazine. They don't actually have Bosnian toes or Turkish heels and she doesn't know why they named socks with holes that name. Who knows? I have some Aquarius Cat's pajamas saved for them. I also would like to use the really rich dark brown Madtosh for Francie.

What kind of socks do you like to knit- Striped? Yes, I was on a self striping yarn kick for a while there. I just have to perfect a short row heel so that the heels look nice.

Colourwork? I haven't done much of this with socks. I do have a Fair Isle kit for socks.

Plain Stockinette? I like really 'sick' yarn as the kids would say so they look best in plain stockinette.

Cabled? Yup, I like simple cabled socks, too.

Lace? Totally fun. I'm knitting ,Vog on right now and I love doing the lace down the front of the sock - it keeps things interesting.

Anklets? The aforementioned Vogs

Knee Socks? Haven't yet. I fear I would look like an aging Pippi Longstocking.

Solid Colours? Yes, but I prefer a textured pattern when working in solids.

Bright and crazy? Have tons of this, but am leaning towards semi-solids now.

Faux Fair Isle (the yarn doing all of the work)? Been there, done that.
