Tuesday morning we woke up at 6 am and finally left the house at 9 am after Hon killed off the cell phones so that we didn't have GPS. Luckily I had mapquested our route.
Our first stop was the Staples in Brockville where Hon bought Cornelius a camera. We stopped off at a Subway for lunch and visited a Joann Fabrics. We also stopped off at a Walmart before arriving in Queens at 8 pm. I actually drove the last 100 miles. I thought I was going to have a heart attack when we drove through NY city.
My pink, purple and blue hair could possibly be gang colours. While I was driving the young guy in the flashy red truck next to me pointed and said he like my hair! My hair gives me street cred here!
The next day we took the subway to Manhattan and walked around Times Square. I sat in line for 1 1/2 hours for tickets to Hairspray at the Neil Simon theatre. Calliope went home with Grandma and Great-Aunt before the show. The show was lots of fun. Elinor enjoyed it a lot. We also went to a yarn shop, Stitches East, close to 5th Ave. Elinor got some yarn. I bought a couple balls for our Chemo cap group.
Thursday we spent at the Bronx zoo with Hon's cousins and their kids. We saw a tiger, a gorilla and a strange creature that looked part zebra, part horse, part giraffe.
Friday we went to Jones Beach which was fantastic. It is the longest beach I've ever seen with gorgeous soft sand. Hon didn't put on sunblock for some inexplicable reason and is a lobster today. Cornelius has some sunburn as well, as he was in the water most of the day boogie boarding. Calliope loved playing in the waves and building sand castles. A resort vacation down south is a must. We also went to the Museum of Modern Art last night as it was free. Boy, was it crowded!
Today we spent in Flushing for the Arthur Ashe Kids Day. The kids played tennis with pros and we watched some fun games of some big name tennis players, Anna somebody and somebody James, etc., etc. We also heard Demi somebody from Camp Rock singing and some other teeny bopper groups. It was a great way to see where the US Open is played.
We saw Diego but Isabella was not interested in posing with him for a picture. She did wonder aloud if she was going to see Alicia, too.
Right now we are at another cousin's house for dinner. The kids are having fun playing wii fit. Calliope can sit still for 27 seconds.
I'm not sure when I will have access to the internet again. Good luck on Monday at your new job, Rookie Hookie!
